Hudson’s Place

Revitalising a Neglected Gem in London’s Iconic Public Space

Location: Victoria, London
Client: Victoria Gardens Development Ltd
Year: 2020
Site Area: 800 m²

At Hudson’s Place, located adjacent to Victoria Station, we are dedicated to creating a vibrant, contextually responsive, and visually captivating pedestrian haven for visitors, residents, local workers, and businesses alike. This historically significant site, once a royal entry to the station, steeped in grandeur and hosting important ceremonies, had, over time, faded into obscurity—a mere forgotten stretch of road. While it no longer serves as a royal entry, Hudson’s Place is now poised for a remarkable transformation into a dynamic public space.

The redevelopment of Stockley House, situated adjacent to the south-eastern entrance of Victoria Station, has given us a unique opportunity to breathe new life into Hudson’s Place. Currently, it stands as an underutilised car park. Our vision aligns seamlessly with the desires of the local community, who yearn for calm, green, and welcoming spots where they can unwind, enjoy their lunch, or meet a friend amid London’s bustling and congested centre.

This rejuvenated urban oasis will serve as a catalyst for community engagement, introducing essential environmental enhancements, including the addition of trees and blooming flora to enrich biodiversity and air quality. Moreover, we are prioritising people by diminishing the dominance of cars, promoting pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, and fostering neighbourhood connectivity. All of these initiatives align with TFL’s Healthy Streets and Active Travel initiatives, emphasising the well-being and vitality of the community while contributing to a greener, more sustainable urban landscape.
