Thurrock Council Civic Offices Extension
A colourful garden retreat for Thurrock Council’s new offices
Location: Thurrock, Essex
Client: Thurrock Council
Year: 2018
Site Area: 1,600 m²
The new offices of Thurrock Council will be complemented by a lush and colourful garden retreat to provide a place for relaxation and ceremony. Working in collaboration with LSI Architects, URBAN has designed The Ceremony Garden, created to support wedding receptions, and features a secluded woodland garden with planting beds of white flowers and a spectacular specimen tree.
A small Entry Court will create a charming pedestrian connection between the existing Parish Church garden and the designated drop-off point to the building’s extension, whilst a modest café spill out space has been located to the south, in a space that enjoys good sunlight all year round. Planting will be colourful and will include fragrant lavender and flowering crabapple trees.
Enhancements to the public realm streetscape were also undertaken to include mature street trees, the provision of modern and consistent street furniture: cycle stands, benches and litter bins.
